Internships & Fellowships

The Shakespeare & Company Internship Program is designed to train the next generation of theater professionals to become successful and well-rounded members of the theater community, while Fellowships offer opportunities for further professional and creative development.

Internships at Shakespeare & Company

Interns receive one-on-one mentoring from their department leads, in addition to working with professional artists. Throughout the internship, a lecture series designed exclusively for interns illustrates the inner workings of a large arts organization, as well as our own commitment to an identity-conscious environment.

Interns also have opportunities to complete independent capstone projects within their departments and receive career guidance with performance evaluations and resume and portfolio reviews.

Internships are typically 12 to 16 weeks in duration, but if one of the tracks listed below is not perfect for an applicant, programs of custom duration or areas of interest may be developed.

Fellowships at Shakespeare & Company

The Tina Packer Women of Will Directing Fellowship

In honor of its visionary Founding Artistic Director Tina Packer, Shakespeare & Company has created the Tina Packer Women of Will Directing Fellowship, to further the development of early-career stage directors who identify as women and who have a passion for Shakespeare.

This Fellowship was conceived and funded by Shakespeare & Company actor and Center for Actor Training alumnus John Douglas Thompson, with matching funds from an anonymous donor and additional gifts from a group of Shakespeare & Company women directors mentored and inspired by Tina Packer.

The Women of Will Fellow will be in residence at Shakespeare & Company throughout the summer rehearsal period of a Shakespeare production helmed by an experienced woman director, observing and working as Assistant Director throughout the process. The Fellow will receive a stipend, housing, and travel reimbursement.

The first Women of Will Fellowship will be awarded for A Comedy of Errors, directed by Kate Kohler Amory. The Fellowship dates are June 10 – July 20.

My favorite part here has been getting to work with a group of really awesome people and learning new things about my craft every single day.
Regan McKay, 2018
The staff and faculty are among the most compassionate, sincere, and knowledgeable an actor will encounter, and their priority is one: to give the actor the tools they need to discover - and wield - the deepest and most whole version of themselves. Shakespeare & Company helped me see how important advocating for arts in todays age is. I learned so much and now have an amazing support team cheering me on as my future career progresses.
