POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Company now seeks an experienced and imaginative individual to fill the position of Residencies and Riotous Youth Programs Manager beginning on or about September 4, 2023. Reporting to the Education Programs Administrator, the Residencies and Riotous Youth Programs Manager is responsible for the promotion, program implementation, and daily management of the Riotous Youth Programs, elementary / middle / high school Residencies, and for co-directing a play in the annual Fall Festival of Shakespeare.  The ideal candidate will have strong communication and people management skills with experience in creating and managing a culturally diverse team environment. The candidate will also be a team player with a strong anti-racist perspective and be a strategic, flexible, positive, and curious thinker responsible for creating, implementing, and measuring a successful and comprehensive strategy as part of the Education Department, while providing support to Shakespeare & Company Performances, and its Center for Actor Training on a local, national, and international scale.

 

ABOUT THE SHAKESPEARE & COMPANY EDUCATION PROGRAM

 

Shakespeare & Company is a non-profit theater company located in Lenox, MA. The Education Program at Shakespeare & Company invites and empowers students to bring the classical poetry and plays of Shakespeare alive in ways that are personally inspiring, educationally rigorous, and theatrically compelling. Through performances, residencies, and workshops in the Berkshires and all over the Northeast, Shakespeare & Company reaches more than 40,000 students per year.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Residency Programs Manager duties include coordinating all Elementary, Middle and High School Residency programs, other than the Fall Festival of Shakespeare: hiring, scheduling, directly supervising, and evaluating Residency staff; developing and leading Residency staff training; leading regularly scheduled youth program meetings, feedback sessions, and curriculum-building sessions; coordinating with outside organizations and schools for programming needs; coordinating with the costume department on the needs of all costume elements; coordinating with the production department on pulling prop and set elements; working with education program officials in the careful and well-thought dissemination of Shakespeare’s methods and ideals; and assisting with the evaluation of participants' development and with documentation of the program.
  • Riotous Youth Programs Manager duties include coordinating all Riotous Youth programs: coordinating efforts with the marketing department to solicit applicants; processing Riotous Youth applications and registrations; communicating with participants and their families; hiring, scheduling, directly supervising, and evaluating Riotous Youth staff; leading regularly scheduled youth program meetings, feedback sessions and curriculum-building sessions; coordinating with the costume department on the needs of all costume elements; coordinating with the production department on pulling prop and set elements; working with education program officials in the careful and well-thought dissemination of Shakespeare’s methods and ideals; and assisting with the evaluation of participants' development and with documentation of the program.
  • Co-directing a Fall Festival play includes working with other assigned personnel to direct a Shakespeare Production at the school assigned utilizing students in any and all capacities of production, with the goal of maintaining as safe and healthy an environment as possible leading to community presentations at the school and a Festival presentation at the Tina Packer Playhouse, taking responsibility for the artistic and aesthetic quality of the Production including, acting as liaison between Shakespeare’s education program and the school’s officials, casting the show and cutting the script accordingly, directing / guiding student actors in their stage movements and character development, demonstrating leadership in Fall Festival “Common Classes”, planning the set, costumes, lighting and sound in cooperation with the Design Team, working with others on the presentation of the Production in the school and again at the Tina Packer Playhouse.
  • Throughout the Term of the Agreement, the Residencies and Riotous Youth Programs Manager’s secondary duties include assisting with teaching on any Education Program as requested; performing administrative functions in the Education Program office including enrollment and invoicing efforts; monitoring expenses and reimbursements; participating in annual budgeting efforts; assisting with evolving program curriculum needs; mentoring others in the Education Department; creating and maintaining handbooks and other teaching materials; assisting with efforts to implement and expand Education Program activities.

Compensation
This full-time exempt position will receive compensation of $40,000 annually. Benefits include paid time off, health insurance options including 75% contribution towards individual’s health insurance, 403(b) with TIAA-CREF including a company match after 2 year’s employment, medical FSA, and discounts on company programs. Local housing can be provided for up to 60 days as part of a relocation package.
